We have built a telecommunications backbone painstakingly over the last decade. 100% coverage of the Island is not far away!
It was evident in the early 1990-s that Sri Lanka urgently needed a modern telecommunications infrastructure if it was to take its place in the world of commerce and industry.
We planned and implemented South Asia's first private TV broadcasting station in Colombo, before inviting Singapore Telecom to operate MTV Channel as a joint venture partner. Soon thereafter, Sunpower and Singapore Telecom worked together to launch Sri Lanka's first private radio station in 1993.
A Sunpower subsidiary, MTT Network (Pvt) Ltd, has built the most comprehensive microwave and optical fibre transmission network in the private sector and is now providing leased space and value-added transmission services to a number of service providers.
Sunpower was also instrumental in launching the country's first GSM digital mobile phone service, brand-named Dialog. Dialog is today Sri Lanka's leading mobile service provider.
